Kitchen sinks come in several configurations, and the installation method depends on the type.

Undermount installation is more involved than drop-in and benefits significantly from professional installation to avoid future failures.

We confirm the sink fits the countertop opening and that the supply and drain lines are positioned correctly for the new fixture. Mismatches are caught before they become a problem.
We shut off the water supply to the sink, remove the old fixture if there is one, and prepare the supply connections for the new faucet and sink configuration.
For drop-in sinks, we apply sealant and set the sink into the countertop opening. For undermount sinks, we apply adhesive, position the sink from below, and attach mounting clips to the underside of the counter. For farmhouse sinks, we confirm the cabinet support is adequate before setting the sink in place.
The faucet is connected to the hot and cold supply lines. The drain assembly is assembled and connected to the drain pipe below, including the P-trap.
If the installation includes a garbage disposal, we connect the disposal to the drain assembly and wire or verify the electrical connection.
We run water through the system and check every connection point for leaks, including the supply lines, drain connections, P-trap, and disposal connection. Everything is confirmed dry before we finish.
Any areas where the sink meets the countertop or backsplash are sealed with the appropriate caulk or silicone to prevent water intrusion behind the fixture.

Farmhouse and undermount sinks come up often enough in remodels and kitchen upgrades that they’re worth addressing specifically.
Farmhouse sinks are heavy. A standard apron-front cast iron or fireclay sink can weigh 100 to 200 pounds. The base cabinet under it must support that weight securely, and in many older kitchens the standard cabinet base wasn’t built for it. We assess the cabinet structure before setting the sink and flag any support work needed.
Undermount sinks in kitchens require a countertop material such as granite, quartz, or solid surface that can support the mounting clips and adhesive from below. Undermount on a laminate top is not a reliable installation. If you’re planning a countertop and sink upgrade together, coordinating the timing with the countertop fabricator avoids the common mistake of the sink being installed before the countertop is ready.
Most sink installation problems trace back to one of a handful of errors. Improper sealing at the rim allows water to work under the sink and damage the cabinet. Not necessarily. If the existing faucet is in good condition and compatible with the new sink’s hole configuration, it can be reinstalled. If you’re doing a full upgrade, installing a new faucet at the same time makes sense since the labor for both is combined.
Yes, and we recommend combining the two when a disposal is part of the plan. The drain assembly is configured for the disposal during the sink installation, which avoids having to partially disconnect the sink later to add it.
